Whose spirit speaks?

Who has helped you utter these words? And whose spirit spoke from your mouth?
                                        Job 26:4 NIV

Remember the cartoon show Rocky and Bullwinkle?  Rocky was an energetic flying squirrel and Bullwinkle was a moose.  Bullwinkle J. Moose to be exact.  Just before breaking to commercials, Bullwinkle would say "Teenie weenie chili beany, the spirits are about to speak!"

Rocky would then ask, "Are they friendly spirits?"

Bullwinkle would reply, "Just listen."

Here Job is being challenged and troubled on many fronts.  His health, his great losses, and now his friends continuing speeches that are malicious and judgmental.  Job was listening and was prompted to ask about whose spirit was speaking.

The Holy Spirit is around in Job's time.

Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
                                                   Genesis 1:2 NIV

In the Old Testiment we will see the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit at work.  We will see it alight on people to do extraordinary things.  In the New Testiment, after Pentocost, we become sealed with the Holy Spirit, the comforter.

The evil spirits do recognize Christ, even though many people do not.

When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him.  They were so violent that no one could pass that way.  "What do you want with us, Son of God?"
                                   Matthew 8 28-29a NIV

One way to look for the Holy Spirit's work is to look for the fruits of the Spirit.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.  Against such things there is no law.
                                     Galatians 5:22-23

May we discern the Holy Spirit so we too can bear spiritual fruit.

Pray for directors wisdom, guidance and the Holy Spirit to be active as they discern many needs

In Christ
