I'll save my heavy hitting for the next couple of days and instead want to emphasize one brief point. We've seen the back and forth between Job and his friends, and finally with Elihu in the last couple of days. It's hard to read Job and not say to ourselves "Well, I'D know better," and with 4,000 years of hindsight and commentary, perhaps we would. But I ask this simple question--how would your thinking of Job change if you sliced this little bit out of the book, specifically Job 1:6-12 and 2:1-7? In other words, how would you view Job if you didn't have the advantage of knowing that the Lord was behind it?
