Orion and Pleiades...God is awesone..Side thoughts

I was carrying out the garbage last night at about 8:30 - 9pm and looked up at the clear sky and noted the stars.  I was walking South.

Almost overhead, just a little to the Southeast, was the constellation Orion, easily identified by the 3 "belt" stars in a straight line from the Southeast to the Northwest.

In my astronomy class, some 30 years ago, our professor commented on how Orion was the most perfect constellations in the sky, for it really took the least imagination to see the hunter with his raised club protecting the twins, Gemini from the raging bull, Taurus.

Thoughts included how the perfect Word of God would include the most perfect constellation.  Also were thoughts of the Magi, visiting Jesus at his birth, and even Job's friends; Eliphaz, Bilidad, and Zophar, (remember they are there to "sympathize" with him and "comfort" him- Job 2:11) may have had some farmiliarity with that polytheistic view.

A little to the right, was a moderately bright 'smudge' of light, the Pleiades. In the astronomy class, we discussed the Pleiades was a place of star creation.  Again thoughts of our Creator God Creating...even still today.

One might ask, or consider, or speculate on the time of year that the book of Job was written by the mentinoning of specific constellations in the night sky.

If it is clear, consider going outside at 8:30 - 9pm.  Face South in an open space, look up at the sky.  You may be able to pick out the constilation Orion and just a bit to the West the 'smudge' of light, the Pleiades.

With that, as you read your One Year Chronological Bible, and you read a name, location, event, remember vividly that all the names, places, events are concrete, real and again the truth.  Sometimes, as we read, we may lose that concept.

Consider Job's faithfulness.  Consider his friend's efforts to "sympathize and comfort" Job.  I suspect his friends view their statements as truth also.  Let what we say be said in Love, so that we do not degenerate to sarcasm.  It appears the conversation is degenerating.

Pray for time management and unity and the Spirit to prepare our hearts and minds for the time in God's Word..

In Christ

  1. Hello,
I'm from Kansas and looking for others that are reading the bible chronologically. I have never read the bible before so I find that there is lots I don't understand. I am always interested to see others opinions and views of the events. I am also blogging about my adventure through the bible at http://thequestforme.blogspot.com/ if you would like to check it out. Are you using a specific chronological bible or your standard? Thanks and Good Luck
