The Plagues part 1 (Feb 4)

Magicians were able to change the water into blood, just like Moses did with his staff that changed into a snake.  God in his mercy did not deprive the Egyptians of water, for they were able to dig along the river to get drinking water.

God used snakes as a tool for Moses on several occasions.  On March 6, we will read Numbers 21:8 where Moses puts a snake up on a pole for people to look at and be saved.

Hmmmm...Where else have we seen water and blood and God lifted up for people to look at to be saved?

We have many plagues, next the frogs  (one might think of frog as an acronym for Fully Reliant On God) and gnats.  These preceeding plagues did not distinguish between Egyptian and Isralite.

Flies, livestock, hail, and subsequent plagues, distinguished between Egyptian and Isralite.  Plagues were directed against Egyptian gods, showing the might of the Lord against idols.

Moses and pharaoh had repetitive exchanges with the plagues.  Before plagues; Moses had a request "let my people go." During plagues; pharaoh with a request like stop the plague, go, pray to your Lord and I will let you go (sort of).  After these plagues pharaoh's heart was hardened initially by himself and later by God, as a result, he did not live up to his word.

Thoughts

Where do you look for salvation?

Wehere do you dig for living water,?

"Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me."
                                John 14:6 NIV

How might you, like pharaoh through Moses, be  "negotiating" with God?

Pray for the pastoral staff to be encouraged and strengthened, to proclaim the Word with authority and pray for minds and hearts to be prepared to hear the Word.

In Christ.
