Onward to Egypt (Feb 3)

Consider Moses' thoughts as he travels to Egypt on a donkey.  I suspect that he is preoccupied by several facts: With a hardened heart, pharaoh will be a difficult sell;  Moses has many self doubts; God's messages about killing the firstborn son and letting people go were not messages of comfort or joy for pharaoh.  With Moses' preoccupation, or perhaps for other reasons, Moses did not circumcise his son, he did not follow a command of God.  Zipporah stepped in and saved a life/lives.

The elders of Israel welcomed and believed Moses.  Not so Pharaoh; instead pharaoh felt the Israelites were lazy and commanded them to make their full quota of bricks without straw.

Moses feels downcast as a result of his failure and the increasd burden on the Israelites and responds to God's command to go tell pharaoh to "let my people go" with "I have faltering lips."

We have Levi's descendants.

We have Aaron speaking for Moses and ultimately the "staff to snake" events culminating in Moses' snake consuming the snakes of the magicians.

Thoughts:

When have you forgotten God or God's work in view of the "facts?"

When do your self doubts lead to doubting God?  Remember we are created in God's image, not God created in our image.

Can you think of a firstborn son that rode on a donkey and was killed?

When have you made excuses for not doing God's work, or any work, because you did not feel capable to do the work?

Pray for the Spirit to bless you with increasing faith to stay on track.
