Building: The Tabernacle, The Ark, and The Altar of Burnt Offering (Feb14)

Today's reading describes the skilled men and the tremendous amount of work and material that went into this project.

Reading the narrative of how construction and building proceeded, one can discern that God's instructions given to Moses were followed exactly.

A love for God and devotion to His Word is shown by the Israelites in this project and attention to detail.  Think of the exactness, the devotion, the prayer and the work involved.  Reading the footnotes, one is told that one metric ton of gold and about 3.4 metric tons of silver.  Quite a project!

"And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands.  As you have heard fromthe beginning, his command is that you walk in love." 2 John 1:6-NIV

"Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey-whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?" Romans 6:16-NIV

God gave exact plans to the Israelites for the tabernacle.  God will give exact plans to the Israelites for worship.  We will learn that God did become angry and did judge those who did not follow or disrespected his plan.  We will learn about two priests on Feb 18.

Thoughts:

How do you use your skills in following God's instructions: with love, or with something else?

How do you show your generosity in following God's instructions?

Pray for the ability to discern and lovingly respond to God's call.

In Christ,

David P
