The First 80 years of Moses Life (Feb 2)

A "new king who did not know about Joseph" enters onto the scene in our reading and as a result, the world changes for the Hebrew.  The new king does not learn about Joseph, but rather operates on his fear and heaps burdens upon the Hebrew nation.  In addition, plots to kill the male Hebrew babies are hatched.  Initially, the plot was for the Egyptian midwives to the Hebrew to kill the male infants and subsequently an order was given to throw the Hebrew male infants into the Nile.

A child is born to Levite parents.  This male child has a wise sister who follows mother's instructions and is observant thus arranging for the infant's mother to nurse her son while being paid by Pharaoh's daughter for that effort.  Pharaoh's daughter names the child Moses, for he was drawn out of water.

One day, the adult Moses sees an Egyptian beating a Hebrew and, thinking he could get away with it, kills the Egyptian and buries him in the sand.  This is found out and Moses fears for his life, flees to Midian, marries Zipporah and has a son, Gershom.

God calls Moses, who responds initially "Here I am," and then responds "Who am I?"

God encourages Moses multiple times, yet Moses resists his calling.  God grows angry with Moses, and adds Aaron, the Levite-Moses' brother- to the team for the tasks in Egypt.

Thoughts:

What efforts do you make to learn about "Joseph" or do you operate on fear stemming from your thoughts about "Joseph?"

Where do you place your hopes?  In "Pharaoh," in an idol, in God?

How do you train up your children to be observant and wise?

What have you done that you thought you could get away with that is hidden in the sand?  What fears do you carry?

Do you trust in the Spirit's guidance or does your "Here I am" change quickly to a "Who am I?"

" I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust."  Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare and from deadly pestilence.  He will cove you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart." Psalm 91:2-4 -NIV

Take your burdens to the Lord in prayer.  He is listening right now.

In Christ.
