As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people both now and forevermore.

What an abundance of peace, strength, comfort and joy we can be assured of as a result of today's verse.
Jerusalem was built in a mountainous area, on rock. Like Jerusalem, we to stand on our faith; based on a Rock, on the Lord who comforts, shields, surrounds and protects us from all both now and forevermore.
It is by faith that much was done by Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Rahab and others who carried out great, mighty and powerful actions. Faith of individuals was a component of Jesus' miracles like turning water into wine, healing of the woman with the bleeding, and healing of the centurion's daughter. It is by faith that we are surrounded by rock the way Jerusalem is. Hebrews 11 speaks nicely about the important role of faith.
