Bases (July4)

Babylon, the jewel of kindoms, the glory of the Babylonians' pride, will be overthrown by God, like Sodom and Gomorrah.
                         Isaiah 13:19 NIV

One important attribute of God is that of judge.  Here we read of the jewel Babylon being overthrown or judged by God.  Isaiah 13:9-16 explains the day of the Lord.  We read that sinners will be destroyed.

Just as Babylon was judged, nations will be judged and we too will be judged.  We will be asked on that day of the Lord; that cruel day with wrath and fierce anger, upon what do we, as individuals, base our righteousness?

We can learn from our prior readings that God is a God of truth, order, justice, mercy, grace, love, compassion and many other attributes.  He has given His Son to die for us and by the shed blood, cleanses us from our unrighteousness.  That cleansing is a gift of grace through faith apart from works that our joyful response of thanks is the only appropriate response.  It is by Jesus' overcoming death that we can live, and have life abundantly.

The only basis for our righteousness is by what Jesus did for us in his death and resurrection.  Again, all have sinned and fall short of God's glory.

Upon what do you base your hope, your righteousness, your eternal life?

Pray for the Spirit to lead you to tell the story.

In Christ,

David P
