Spouses (June 6 & 7)

A wife of noble character who can find?  She is worth far more than rubies.  Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.  She brings him good, not harm all the days of her life.
                                       Proverbs 31 10-12 NIV

As Solomon grew old, his wives truned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father had been.
                                       1 Kings 11:4 NIV

We have read much in the Bible thus far, we are almost 1/2 way through.  We have read of all kinds of people and their variability and randomness.  We have read of God and his unchanging incomparable attributes.  Three of which are: creator, provider, and sustainer.

The verses above from June 6 and 7 deal with a great gift from God, marriage and how the choice of a mate does affect ones life.

The first passage leads one to consider the abundant blessings of choosing a Christian spouse.  Those verses might remind us of the benefits of security, comfort, peace that accrue from an even yoke.  In addition, with the Lord in the marriage, a cord of three strands is not easily broken, it will endure with love forever.

The second passage discusses Solomon's heart being turned away from the Lord by his wives who had other gods before the Lord God.  Solomon was unevenly yoked.  We can only speculate how or why Solomon, who asked for wisdom as his gift from God had his heart turned away from the Lord.  Was it for pride, seeking his youth, peace in the home or for some other reason?  Again, we can only speculate.

These passages might prompt us to recall Proverbs 22:6 NIV: Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.  As a parent, the guidance of God's Word should prompt us to spend time with our children and let them see, so they can appreciate the value of the Christian faith, the importance of the guidance of God's Word and the value of a spouse of a Christian faith.

How do you train up your children to guide them in the selection of a spouse?

How do you use the BIBLE*?

Pray for your examples and teachings to your children to be used by your children to guide them in lifes difficult decisions.

In Christ
