Beautiful (June 8)

He has made everything beautiful in its time.  He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
                                   Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV

This verse speaks volumes of God's attributes and of man's limited understanding of God.

God has made everything beautiful in its time.  Think of God's attribute of creator.  We clearly saw that attribute in Genesis.  Think of God's attribute of creator today and of His abundant gifts; a wheat field near harvest, a flower blooming, a newborn's cry, a Grant Wood picture of Iowa, these are only a few examples of the beauty of God's creation.  It is about Him and what He has done, not about  us and what we have done.

God has set eternity in our hearts.  Unfortunately man often does not look at eternity when daily decisions are made.  Man often looks at the short term outcomes when making decisions.  Some of these short term outcomes include the next quarter's earnings per share, how to save something now to be paid later.  This mentality often leads to being penny wise and pound foolish and in fact may lead to excessive debt and other challenges.

Man's limited understanding is aptly stated in the last clause, where we read that man can not understand what God has done from beginning to end.  Consider the Bible.  Man, by himself without the Spirit's guidance, cannot fathom it.  For us to understand takes the work of the Spirit.  Just as Peter proclaimed Christ as Lord with the Spirit's guidance, we cannot fathom our incomparable God without the work of the Spirit.

As the song goes; Everything is beautiful in its own way, sometimes it may not be the time or perhaps we are not looking correctly.

Where do you look for beauty?

How do you consider eternity in making your daily decisions?

How do you seek the Spirit's guidance?

Pray for the Spirit to show you eternal beauty on a daily basis.

In Christ,

David P
