David's post covered the highlights, and I strongly suggest you read it if you haven't already, but I wanted to add one small detail. At the end of today's reading, we're told God's rationale for the complete annihilation of the inhabitants of Canaan when he states that if any are allowed to remain, they will become "barbs in your eyes and thorns in your sides." This alone should have gotten the people of Israel's attention, but God then follows it up with something chilling and prophetic. These words deserve special emphasis:
Numbers 33:56
And then I will do to you what I plan to do to them.
This isn't the last time where God clearly states that his will WILL be done or else there will be consequences, but this is about as clear as it can get. Lucky for us we follow God's will every day in every way...
