Servants (Aug 2)

"I will summon all the peoples of the north and my servant Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon," declares the Lord, "and I will bring them against this land..."
                                              Jeremiah 25:9a NIV

This verse points to differences between general human reasoning, wisdom and understanding; in contrast to the Lord's perfect reasoning wisdom, understanding and plan.  For here Nebuchadnezzar is mentioned as a servant of the Lord.

Upon first consideration, Nebuchadnezzar, would be thought of as an independent aggressor against the kingdom of Judah.  However, after realizing how far Judah had departed from the Lord's plan with idol worship, unrepentant hearts, and other detestable acts; it is not impossible for men to understand that the Sovereign, Omnipotent Lord would use Nebuchadnezzar as a tool, here as a servant, to carry out strong judgement against Judah.  God will use anyone to accomplish His plans.

The Lord, just as he used Nebuchadnezzar as a servant, uses all of us as his servant(s).  The ultimate goal of our service is to bring glory to him.

What feelings come up as you consider Nebuchadnezzar as a servant of the Lord?

How do you serve the Lord in your daily activities?

Pray to realize your responsibilities of service.

In Christ,

David P
