Then Harbona, one of the eunuchs attending the king, said, "A gallows seventy-five feet high stands by Haman's house. He had it made for Mordecai, who spoke up to help the king."
The king said, "Hang him on it!" So they hanged Haman on the gallows he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the kings fury subsided.
Esther 7:9-10 NIV
The biblical account of Esther and the avoidance of annihilation of the Jews is a beautiful account of courage, faith, action, wisdom, and many blessings are described in the account. The descriptions are in accord with God's plan for His chosen people, and one can easily appreciated the important place in God's plan Esther's role has.
Today's verse does not particularly focus on God's gracious and generous plan, but rather on the untoward effects of human pride, wisdom, and perhaps prejudice shown by Haman when he foolishly plots to destroy the Jews in general and Mordecai in particular.
Reflect on yesterday's reading, and recall that Haman was enraged at Mordecai, and also the Jews as a result of Mordecai not kneeling to pay Haman homage. Haman, an honored noble, weaves a web to kill Mordecai and the Jews. Haman, using human wisdom, going against God's plan, leads to his own demise on the gallows constructed to hang Mordecai. In this account, Haman's plan was tilted against him by King Xerxes
The truth of the Proverbs stating that; fear of the Lord being the beginning of wisdom ,and that pride comes before fall are clearly shown in this passage.
What things might a person carry that would be outside of God's will?
Are you carrying any "stuff" outside of God's will?
How do you show awesome respect, or fear, of the Lord in your daily life?
Pray for your work, efforts, and life to be fully Spirit led.
In Christ,
David P
