"You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it."
Haggi 1:6 NIV
As a part of today's reading, we read the book of the prophet Haggi. His name means "festal," perhaps he was born on a festival. His message, despite today's verse, is a message to touch, motivate and inspire others to make rebuilding the temple a priority. His message is one of blessings resulting from commitment to God and his house; in contrast to curses from other commitments.
Today's verse shows the importance of seeking first the kingdom of God with a negative example. We have read much in the Old Testament. One of the main themes is that national adversity is due to national disobedience to God. Israel accepted Haggi's message and in short order work on the temple, after a hiatus of 15 years, began.
Haggi's message had an effect and it touched, motivated and inspired the people to resume the work on God's house.
Today, we live a life with many responsibilities, duties and chores. How today do we reach, motivate and inspire individuals to do God's work?
What motivates people to action?
Would you ask a pastor how you could serve in your church?
Pray for the Spirit to guide you to use your gifts effectively.
In Christ,
David P
