With flattery he will corrupt those who have violated the covenant, but the people who know their God will firmly resist him.
Daniel 10:32 NIV
God hates flattery! Today we read of flattery leading to corruption.
Webster gives several definitions for 'flatter': to try to please by complimentary remarks or attention; to praise of compliment insincerely; to represent favorably, gratify by falsification; to play upon the vanity or susceptibilities, cajole, wheedle or beguile. Flattery can be a tool used for deception and misrepresentation of the truth. Flattery is, in fact, a tool of the evil one.
God instructs us in defense against deception. Today we read that those who know Him will firmly resist. How do we get to know God? Getting to know God involves preparation. He has told us to meditate on his word daily, continually, to gather in worship, to humbly serve others. In Ephesians 6, Paul tells us to put on the full armor of God; the belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, feet ready with gospel, helmet of salvation, sword of the Spirit, and PRAY.
What kind of reactions do people give when flattered?
How do you respond to flattery?
What are you doing to get to know God better?
Pray for God's protective arm to be wrapped around all believers.
In Christ,
David P
