For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me, I tell this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and that one, 'Come,' and he comes. I say to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it.
Matthew 8:9 NIV
We can be impressed by the Centurion's, a gentile, faith in Christ by the request for remote healing of a servant. Think of parallels between the Centurion and Christ: In the Centurion's concern for the servant who was paralyzed and in great suffering; and in authority over others being given from above.
Christ is concerned about His flock; our well being, our comings and goings, our lives and our faith. In addition, Christ has authority, over all, given from above. To have authority over others, that authority is given from above.
There are 13 definitions of authority in my Webster. These definitions have to do with influence, knowledge, power, mastery, testimony, or vesting of governmental authority.
Think of how the gift of the Holy Spirit gives us knowledge, understanding, wisdom, and strength. In fact, we have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16) through the Spirit. As a result, for the Spirit to work in us, for our lives to be effective for the work set upon us, we must ask for the Spirit to guide us, to illuminate the dark spots in our lives, and give us the strength and courage to change toward being more Christlike.
Being under Christ's authority, we are being equipped to, and have the authority, the duty, and the command to go to all nations and tell the Good News.
How do you become equipped to do the work set out for you?
How are you doing the work set out for you?
Pray for the Spirit to work mightily in your life and for fruits of the Spirit to abound.
In Christ,
David P
