But it is God who judges; He brings one down, he exalts another.
Psalm 75:7 NIV
We can see in the caption today that the array of Psalms we now read (75, 76, 77, 80, 87, and 125) deal with the Lord being asked to judge the wicked and or to save his people. We also read today that the Lord will cut off the horns of the wicked and raise up the horns of the righteous, Psalm 75:10 NIV.
Webster gives us 37 definitions for the word horn. One is as follows:: a symbol of power or strength, as in the Bible: a horn of salvation.
The Lord does hear us, hears our prayer, and does fulfill prophecy. He is unchanging, just, steadfast and incomparable. He is the one who gave the words to Isaiah yesterday for Isaiah to prophecize that Sennacherib would not enter Jerusalem or shoot an arrow there. True, Sennacherib was turned away from Jerusalem.
We can consider Sennacherib's pride, arrogance, and outright hubris in even considering an assault on Jerusalem. God allowed Sennacherib victory in the North and among other kingdoms. Sennacherib did not see it as God's work, but in his hubris, thought his success was his own work. Certainly God brought down Sennacherib's horn. Remember pride goes before fall.
What attitudes do you show as you serve in your daily walk?
How are your daily attitudes similar to or different from the attitudes Christ displayed during his earthly ministry?
Pray for the Spirit to guide you in humble service on your daily walk.
In Christ,
David P
