Judges 2:19 states "...the people returned to ways even more corrupt than those of their fathers, following other gods and serving and worshiping them. They refused to give up their evil practices and stubborn ways." I won't speak for you, but when I read words like that, I immediately think of...
Paul Lynde summarizes well what every generation thinks of the one that follows, but at least in Judges, we're told what they did, as well as why, since 2:10 tells us that these people hadn't witnessed what had happened in Egypt or in the desert, and serves as a direct consequence of not following the Lord's will and removing the inhabitants of Canaan totally and completely. The unfortunate results are described in the beginning of Chapter 3, where the people of Israel intermarry with the Canaanites and worship their Gods.
It's a common theme that I've already mentioned on more than one occasion and will certainly mention again, but guess what we are today? We're kids also. My generation (I'm at the tail end of the Baby Boom) managed to demand total freedom for ourselves AND complete obedience from our children, or, in other words, live a complete contradiction, but in all honesty, those who did this are probably too stupid to understand. We complain about our kids, our parents complained about us, our grandparents complained about our parents (and our grandparents were right), and so on.
The important thing is that we all fall away in our own ways and are no different that the people of Israel. The idols and practices may have changed, but it still occurs. I won't repeat myself this time, but instead will state that as we read this type of behavior for the next three months or so, just remember that it still happens today.
