It is What it Is (June 15)

So Ahab went off to eat and drink, but Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel, bent down to the ground and put his face between his knees.
                                         1 Kings 18:42 NIV

Take time in 1 Kings 17 to 19 today to read about the great prophet Elijah.  Elijah's faith, trust and prophecy are exemplary.  Baal's inaction shows how worthless an idol is. God's action shows God as a God of power and control. Additionally, God's provision of flour and oil till the rain fell is truly an example of providing for each day, providing daily bread.

The chosen "verse of the day" is an example of contrasting behavior between a non-follower and a follower of the Lord.

Ahab, after the events of the day including the defeat of the many prophets of Baal went off to eat.  In contrast, Elijah, after the events of the day; the provision of fire by God on Mt. Carmel to consume the wood, the bull, and the water in the trench below; has reserve energy to climb to the top of Mt. Carmel and shows humility on the summit by bending down to the ground and putting his face between his knees.

During this time of Elijah's humility and, I suspect, a time of prayer, God fulfills Elijah's prophecy of rain; by starting with a cloud as small as a man's hand rising from the sea and ending with the sky growing black with clouds.

Consider other small things that provide greatly; faith the size of a mustard seed, drawing water for or helping another, being a good Samaritan, showing love to the neighbor are some examples that come to mind.

How do you show your thankfulness for your daily bread?

Do you often say grace before a meal?

Consider what would chldren, your children, say about your honoring of the Lord.

Pray for the Spirit to lead you to humility and love in your actions toward and for others.

In Christ,

David P
